Jocotoco: Conservation that Can Safeguard Humanity's Future

At a celebratory evening at the Centurion Club in the One Vanderbilt Tower in Manhattan, Martin Schaefer, our CEO, Antonio Páez, President of Fundación Jocotoco, Jajean Rose, Director of Jocotoco US, Andrew Farnsworth, Treasurer of Jocotoco US, and Paola Sangolquí, Coordinator of the Galápagos Marine Program, presented an inspiring perspective for the future of our organization.
They highlighted how strategic partnerships and innovation are transforming our approach to conservation, with technology playing a key role. Thanks to cutting-edge tools, we can now measure biodiversity more accurately and tailor our actions to achieve greater impact. They also emphasized the hard work involved in restoring vast ecosystems and creating new protected areas, both on land and at sea, and reaffirmed our lifelong commitment to conservation.
The event pointed out that effective conservation goes beyond protecting nature; it involves working with local communities. By working with neighbors, government authorities and partners, Jocotoco establishes common goals that ensure the conservation of ecosystems while creating sustainable economic opportunities and promoting social well-being. This synergy between conservation and human development is essential.
Paola Sangolquí, a young scientist who has achieved great success in her field, moved the audience with her personal story. She shared how her deep connection to nature was cultivated since her childhood in the Galapagos Islands, a place where conservation is more than a job; it's a way of life. She emphasized that her passion for protecting the ocean and marine life is what drives her work and gives it meaning. Paola said that she now has a daughter of her own, and she wants her daughter to grow up experiencing the same incredible natural wonders that Paola experienced as a child.
As we look to the future, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting our natural treasures and ensuring a more sustainable world for future generations. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this memorable celebration! Your support is vital as we continue our mission to protect biodiversity. Donate here.
