Community workshop about the Lilacine Amazon at Balsas

The Lilacine Amazon project was launched this month to work on the conservation of this threatened species. As a first stage, we offered a workshop to 100 members of the community at Las Balsas, including its president.

The Lilacine Amazon project was launched this month to work on the conservation of this threatened species. As a first stage, we offered a workshop to 100 members of the community at Las Balsas, including its president.

More than half of the global Lilacine Amazon population is located at Las Balsas. Therefore, it is essential for the community to become key actors in conserving this species. On this occasion, our team communicated their activities regarding the protection and monitoring of the roost sites and nests.

As next steps, we will organize environmental education workshops about species trafficking, watershed management, and production of the algarrobina (roosting trees) in order to provide a sustainable use of the carob forests.
