The "Condor´s Hideaway" is a project provides visitors in Antisanilla Reserve the unique opportunity to watch and photograph from very close range Andean Condors! "This project is not intended to generate an architectural whim, but a friendly construction for the animals of the area," said the architect Estefanía Jácome. And so it did! Even during the busy construction phase, a condor was sitting right on top of the building.
The area chosen to build this project was strategic, just a couple of kilometers to the north there is the "Cerro del Cóndor", a place that is constantly visited by this species. We place carrion as food for the condors below the lookout to attract them. That is how the visitor will be able to take pictures and observe the bird at very close range without disturbing them.
We hope to train the Andean Condors so that they arrive regularly at the carrion. So far, it looks promising as 28 Condors have been spotted from the Hideout.
