UMBRELLABIRD LODGE - BUENAVENTURA RESERVE

This wonderful and accessible lodge is located in the lower part of the Buenaventura Reserve, 500 m high. It has a rest area near the drinkers of the Hummingbirds, Chachalacas and Tangaras, so it will make your stay a wonderful experience, you can also watch Coats roaming the area.

TRAIL NETWORK

The Umbrellabird Lodge is located in the middle of Fundación Jocotoco's Buenaventura Reserve. Click here to know more about its biodiversity.

Umbrellabird (2km, moderate): This trail has safety railings and paved soil, but it is only marked up to the Long-wattled Umbrellabird lek (courtship area). It takes 1.5 hours to complete.

Scenic Route (7km, moderate): It's a well maintained and paved path that used to be part of the old Machala-Piñas highway. Here, you will observe singing birds throughout the path. This trail is one of the road accesses to the lodge that also connects to the sanctuary of the Virgin Mary. It lasts 4 hours and is ideal for trekking and mountain biking.

"Perico" (1km, moderate): It has a cobblestone ground and offers a panoramic view of the Reserve and Cerro Buenaventura. It lasts 1.5 hours.

"Tapaculo" (2km, moderate-challenging): It takes 1.5 hours approximately and has a variety of birds and plants.
