The Blue-throated Hillstar (Oreotrochilus cyanolaemus) is a hummingbird discovered in 2017.
The habitat for this new species is strictly limited to the areas known as Cerro de Arcos, in a remote mountain range in southwestern Ecuador. There may be no more than 150 individuals remaining, so to avoid its extinction it is necessary to act fast and decisively. The very limited habitat of this species is disappearing quickly, as it is converted into pine-tree plantations and grazing areas.
Help us raise enough funds to save the remaining patches of paramo scrublands, and restore areas that have already been affected.
This hummingbird is one of the rarest birds in the world, to which we can still give a chance of survival.
