We shared our experience at the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference, held in Barcelona, Spain.

Under the inspiring motto "The science we need for the ocean we want," the United Nations Ocean Decade Conference brought together a diverse range of experts and leaders from the marine sector, along with institutional representatives from around the world, at the International Convention Center of Barcelona (CCIB).

During the conference, we participated in two key events: the Marine Protected Areas (MPA) Forum on April 8 and 9, and our own booth "Galapagos: Evolving Together for Marine Conservation" on April 10, 11, and 12.

At our booth, visitors had the opportunity to learn about the collaborative efforts of various organizations dedicated to conserving the unique marine ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands. We showcased the diverse marine life of Galapagos, the threats it faces, and the collaborative initiatives being implemented to ensure its protection for future generations and contribute to addressing the challenges of the Ocean Decade.

Furthermore, this event provided us with the opportunity to establish contacts with institutions and alliances that can provide support to Galapagos in its conservation mission. For example, we had the honor of meeting with Fanny Douvere, Head of the UNESCO Marine Program, along with the Galapagos National Park, to discuss conservation and management strategies at the World Heritage sites in Galapagos.

"We are committed to continue evolving together for marine conservation in Galapagos and in CMAR countries," mentioned our Galapagos Program Director, Eliécer Cruz.

We are proud to have represented Galapagos alongside the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, the Charles Darwin Foundation, WildAid, and the Galapagos National Park Directorate at this important conference.

We thank Re:wild, Pew Charitable Trust, and the Bezos Earth Fund, who made our participation in this event possible and who constantly support our conservation projects.
