Jocotoco sponsored the environmental education category at the Galapagos edition of FestiCine Guayaquil 2022
At Jocotoco, we believe in art as a powerful tool to spread the word about environmental issues and then generate debates to develop solutions in which we all actively get involved.
That is why we decided to sponsor the environmental education category, which opened for the first edition in the Galapagos of the Guayaquil International Film Festival. This way, a panel of film and conservation experts was responsible for evaluating six national and international films, all focused on environmental awareness. Then, the documentary "Socorro Evolution" was selected as the winner of the Fundación Jocotoco award. A film produced by the Ecuadorian film producer Roberto Ochoa, who received the Iguana Dorada award.
As Vilma Calvopiña, our director of planning and projects for Jocotoco's Galapagos Program, said, "all the documentaries had a powerful message of environmental conservation showcasing the efforts to care for nature which that goes hand in hand with our communities."
And it is that through art, the message of protection and environmental protection can be massified. As the winning documentary filmmaker Roberto Ochoa said, "through our lenses and our cameras, we can reach many people who don't even know the sea."
At Jocotoco, we thank all the participants and attendees of the event in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island. We're looking forward to the film festival next year.
