We obtained a multi-millon research grant!
This exciting project will help us better understand how the natural regeneration of rainforests work and how this process can be strengthened and managed to protect some of the most endangered species on earth.
When it comes to the Chocó lowland rainforest, no place on earth is more in danger of losing it all. This cradle of biodiversity, on the western slopes of the Andes, is home to thousands of unique and endangered species. Unfortunately, a large amount of forest has already been cleared.
The researchers will study the interaction between different species and their functions in this ecosystem with a focus on regenerated secondary forests. This program will also empower Ecuadorian students by trainees to establish local processes that can be used long term.
