Approximately 80% of the world population of Magnolia dixonii is ready to be planted in the Ecuadorian Chocó forest at our Canandé Reserve.

Approximately 80% of the world population of Magnolia dixonii (photo) is ready to be planted in the Ecuadorian Chocó forest at our Canandé Reserve.

Our team led by Fanny de la Cruz (photo) will collect as many seeds as possible of this species and other trees, and try germinate them. The goal is to plant at least a total of 1500 seedlings. "We bring this critically endangered species back from the brink of extinction"; Martin Schaefer says.

Thanks to our partner, the Franklinia Foundation, we are able to carry out this project and increase the population size of four highly threatened tree species: Magnolia dixonii (Critically endangered; CR), Magnolia canandeana (CR), Ecuadendron acosta-solisianum (Endangered; EN) and Matisia palenquiana (EN).
