Thanks to WWF's through their Russell E. Train Education for Nature program, we were able to restore high-altitude habitat of the El Oro Parakeet (Pyrrhura orcesi) and El Oro Tapaculo (Scytalopus robbinsi). We planted 4,000 native trees inside our Buenaventura Reserve and 2,000 more trees in surrounding areas. Buenaventura is the only place in the world that protects these two endangered and endemic bird species. This project will have long-lasting impacts on the conservation of these highly threatened species and supports our long-term vision of establishing a large ecological corridor throughout El Oro Province!

Research has shown climate change drives the altitudinal ranges of both parakeet and tapaculo, and other wildlife. This project hopefully mitigates the risk of extinctions caused by climate change. Our reforestation will strongly improve habitat quality and connectivity among remaining habitat patches of neighbouring land-owners and communities!
