Buenaventura Reserve News
We have two important updates regarding our Buenaventura Reserve. We are glad to announce that several of the near-threatened Red-masked Parakeets we releasedwere spotted at our Buenaventura Reserve, in front of the Umbrellabird Lodge. In December 2019 we released rescued individuals from the pet trade and rehabilitated them for release in the wild. Our program is thus working; most the birds survived. This project is supported by Loro Parque Fundación and Zoo of Arenillas.
Our reforestation project in Buenaventura supported by World Land Trust and Rotary Club of Machala has reached a new milestone. Even though our country is in strict lockdown, our reforestation team (old picture above) continued their activities and finished planting 30,000 native trees. These trees will improve the water quality of the Rio Naranjos watershed, which provides clean water for the 2800 inhabitants of the Saracay community. It will also provide additional habitat for threatened species in our reserve.
