This month we executed the first phase of our reforestation campaign "Plant trees and ABCD oxygen" in our Yanacocha reserve together with the NGO Aves y Conservación. Over 60 students, volunteers, teachers and administrative staff participated as part of their project Proyecto Salesiano Ecuador. A group of women from the local community Alambi also were part of the reforestation program.

We planted 2300 native plants in degraded land to enrich the habitat for the fauna of the area, like the Black-breasted Puffleg, Quito's city bird. This reforestation project will also serve to recover this ecosystem, which provides water for human consumption to local communities of Quito.

The plants selected for this project were: Polylepis reticulata, Salvia quitensis, Passiflora cumbalensis, Passiflora coactilis, Salvia tortuosa, Salvia pauciserrata, Centropogon pichinchensis, Passiflora mixta, Brugmansia candida, Fuchsia ayavacensis, among others. This campaign will continue during rainy season.
