We are happy to announce that we've created our 14th reserve thanks to the support of American Bird Conservancy, Rainforest Trust, and Parrot Wildlife Foundation! Las Balsas Reserve, located in the province of Santa Elena in the coast of Ecuador, has the objective to protect the endangered Lilacine Amazon (Amazona lilacina).

This is a participatory project in which the community of Las Balsas will be the main actors. They are committed to conserve this species, a symbol for the community, and address its main threats: deforestation and illegal trafficking. The community wants to seek different alternatives of sustainable production without harming the environment.

The reserve has currently 32 acres but will soon extend to 209. This area has been strategically purchased to protect the roosting sites of the Lilacine Amazon. We believe that over a quarter of the total population roosts in the new reserve. You can find detailed information about the project here.

We've also received press coverage in our national media! You can click the name of the newspaper to know more at: El Universo, La Hora, El Telégrafo, El Comercio
