New reserve in Galapagos
We have officially established our Jocotoco Galapagos reserve on San Cristobal Island. Thanks to the support of Rainforest Trust we acquired 100 hectares located in the highlands of the island. Our main objective is to protect the Galápagos Petrel (Pterodroma phaeopygia), an endemic marine bird which is critically endangered. We have found 50 nests in the reserve, which makes this a key place for the conservation of the species.
Furthermore, our volunteers and staff will work together with the Galapagos National Park to conserve the unique ecosystem of the islands. Additionally, we are working with other allies to control the invasive species within the reserve.
We are excited to extend our conservation efforts to the iconic Galapagos Islands. Working with the community, we are protecting the many endemic species that occur nowhere else from their main threat, invasive species.
