New projects with Loro Parque Fundación and Fundación Jocotoco
In Ayampe and Las Balsas the project, "Conservation of the Great Green Macaw and Lilacine Amazon Parrot in the Ecuadorian West", will reintroduce six Great Green Macaws donated by Fundación Jambelí. The project is intended to track two Macaws via satellite tags, to identify their foraging, breading, and roosting sites. In addition, it seeks to educate communities near Las Balsas in the province of Santa Elena and Manabí about the illegal trafficking of species.
On the other hand, the project, "Conservation of species of parrots in danger of extinction in the provinces of El Oro and Cotopaxi," aims to educate communities and prevent illegal trafficking of parakeets with the help of the Ministry of the Environment. It will also begin with the monitoring of endangered parakeets in the Buenaventura Reserve.
In the Cotopaxi province, Loro Parque Fundación protected areas will be monitored to confirm the existence of the Yellow-eared Parrot, a species believed to be extinct in Ecuador. And if its necessary a reintroduction of these species will take place in the area.
