THE LODGE

Casa Simpson is a lodge located at Fundación Jocotoco's Tapichalaca Reserve. It has an impressive view of the Cerro Tapichalaca, on the eastern slope of the Andes, with an altitude of 2500 m. It has a large network of trails through the high Andean forests that are home to many beautiful birds, along with a great diversity of plants, mainly Orchids (Orchidaceae).

This is the only lodge in the world where you can see the extraordinary Jocotoco Antpitta. It will be an unforgettable and unrivalled experience!

TRAILS NETWORK

Casa Simpson has a variety of trails through the Andean forests, where you can observe several extraordinary species of flora and fauna. To know more about the biodiversity, click here.

Our trails are:

Jocotoco (2 km, moderate): It is on a cobbled ground and has a hiding place for the observation of birds and wildlife. The main attraction is the station where the Jocotoco Antpitta feeds. It lasts up to 2 hours.

Quebrada honda (5.5 km, challenging): This path is made on land where you can admire the flora and fauna characteristic of this area, as well as livestock breeding activities in nearby farms. It lasts 3 hours approximately.

Tapir (3 km, moderate): Its main attraction is the Andean Tapir. You can climb up to a small river that descends from the rising slope of the moor, but this will require extra effort. It lasts 2 hours.

Páramo (5km, challenging): This road reaches the remains of an airplane that crashed decades ago. Walk 4 km further you will reach 2 lagoons of páramo, at 3,200 m altitude. It takes 4 hours.

Las Pavas (4km, challenging): Here you can see one of the most common birds in the sector. It lasts 4 hours approximately.

Las Tangaras (1.5 km, moderate): Here you can find a small bird with striking and varied colors. It lasts 1.5 hours.

Antpitta Wavy Trail (1.5 km, moderate): This trails lasts 1.5 hours and crosses a path with characteristic flora and fauna of the area.

Piha (4 km, challenging): Here you can see a small bird of grayish colors. It lasts 8 hours.
